Root file disclosure via passwordless sudo grep
Published Jun 1, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Privilege mismanagement in QuickBox Community Edition through 2.5.5 and Pro Edition through 2.1.8 allows attackers to read root-only files. The sudoers policy lets the www-data account run grep as root without a password, so controlled paths can expose /etc/shadow and QuickBox credential databases under /root. Control of the local www-data account is required, and disclosure of stored credentials can enable subsequent administrator and root access.
