Root command execution via passwordless sudo mysql
Published Jun 1, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Privilege escalation in QuickBox Community Edition through 2.5.5 and Pro Edition through 2.1.8 allows local users to execute commands as root. A sudoers rule lets the www-data account invoke mysql without a password, and mysql's -e option accepts a shell escape that runs as root. The attacker must first obtain code execution as www-data, after which the rule permits complete host compromise.
