SYSTEM code execution via writable service binaries
Published Feb 17, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Privilege escalation in Advantech WebAccess/SCADA 9.0.1 allows local users to execute code as NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM. The installer grants Authenticated Users change access to multiple service executables and module locations, including SaaS Composer, MongoDB, Dashboard, and InfluxDB paths. A low-privileged account can replace a service binary or loaded module, which executes when the privileged service loads it.
