CVE-2020-13549Public exploit

Local privilege escalation via writable service executable

Published Feb 19, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

Incorrect default permissions in SyTech XLReporter 14.0.1 allow local users to gain SYSTEM privileges through the Runtime service. The default C:\XLReporter ACL grants Everyone full access and Authenticated Users change access to XLRiRuntime.exe, which runs as NT SYSTEM. A low-privileged local account can replace that service binary and obtain its privileges when the service restarts; arbitrary installation files are also writable.
