Local privilege escalation via writable COM servers
Published Apr 9, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Incorrect default permissions in Ocean Data Systems Dream Report 5 R20-2 allow local users to gain elevated Windows privileges. Two registered COM servers point to IDSEng.exe and IISToolbox.dll under C:\ODS, where the Everyone group receives full control. A local user can replace either server file and wait for its CLSID to be activated, causing attacker-supplied code to run with the invoking process privileges.
