Local privilege escalation via writable logon binaries
Published Apr 9, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Incorrect default permissions in Ocean Data Systems Dream Report 5 R20-2 allow local users to execute code with another user's privileges. The ods_rtm_launch and ods_usc Run values start RTM.exe and USC.exe at logon, while default ACLs grant Everyone full control over both binaries. A local user must replace either installation file before a new user logs in and launches the application, causing the substituted code to run in that user's context.
