Information disclosure via unchecked binary file offsets
Published Apr 18, 2022 · Updated Apr 15, 2025
Out-of-bounds read in Pixar Animation Studios OpenUSD 20.05 allows attackers to disclose process memory via a crafted binary USD file. CrateFile::_ReadTOC and section readers pass attacker-controlled 64-bit file offsets directly to Reader::Seek without checking mapped-file bounds. A victim must access the file; on macOS, thumbnail generation can invoke the parser, exposing layout data that can weaken ASLR.
