Local code execution via writable scheduled-task binary
Published May 27, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Incorrect permission assignment in SmartDraw 2020 27.0.0.0 allows local users to execute code via scheduled-task binary hijacking. The installer grants Authenticated Users inherited write access to the installation folder, while SDMsgUpdate tasks run SDNotify.exe from a missing Messages directory in the installing user's context. A local user can plant that executable before the installer user logs on, causing code execution with that user's privileges and potentially enabling local administrator creation.
