CVE-2020-13378Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Authenticated code execution via WAF log filename

Published May 12, 2023 · Updated Jan 24, 2025

OS command injection in Loadbalancer.org Enterprise VA MAX 8.3.8 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary code. The WAF log request handler passes the untrusted waf_filename value into ensure_access(), which embeds it in a shell chown command without neutralizing shell syntax. Access to the administrative web interface is required; injected commands run as the Apache service account, enabling appliance compromise within that account's privileges.
