Email verification bypass via replacement-address confirmation

Published Jun 19, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

Email verification bypass in GitLab CE/EE 12.5 through 12.9.7, 12.10.0 through 12.10.6, and 13.0.0 allows remote attackers to claim email addresses. The account email-confirmation flow confirms a previously unverified address when a replacement address controlled by the registrant is confirmed. No prior account is required, but exploitation requires registration, a second inbox, and interaction with its confirmation link; the falsely verified address can impersonate its owner.
