Browser-session compromise via unsanitized stored avatar
Published Jun 24, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Stored XSS in BooleBox Secure File Sharing Utility before 4.2.3.0 allows remote authenticated users to run JavaScript in other users' sessions. Account.aspx accepts an avatar value that is not valid base64 image data, stores it with minimal or no sanitization, and later inserts it into an img element's src attribute. A basic account can plant the payload; execution occurs when another user opens the attacker's profile or contact entry, exposing that user's session data and actions.
