Root code execution via unbounded error-code concatenation
Published Jun 17, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Stack overflow in TP-Link NC200, NC210, NC220, NC230, NC250, NC260, and NC450 allows remote authenticated users to execute code as root. httpDelMultiUserRpm in the ipcamera binary repeatedly concatenates deletion error codes into a fixed-size stack buffer without bounding comma-delimited Usernames entries. Access to the web interface is required; the demonstrated request crashes ipcamera, while successful return-address control executes code as root.
