Unauthenticated code execution via shared ViewState key
Published May 19, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Remote code execution in MyLittleAdmin 3.8 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands through crafted ASP.NET ViewState data. The web.config file contains the same machineKey on every installation, so IIS accepts attacker-signed serialized objects as trusted ViewState and deserializes them. No authentication or user interaction is required, and successful exploitation runs code under the IIS application identity rather than as a system administrator.
