CVE-2020-12982

Local privilege escalation via invalid pointer free

Published Jun 11, 2021 · Updated Sep 17, 2024

Invalid object-pointer release in AMD Radeon Software before 20.7.1 allows local users to escalate privileges or crash Windows 10. The Windows graphics driver frees an invalid object pointer, but AMD has not identified the affected API or pointer-validation path. A low-privileged local account must reach the driver interface; successful exploitation gains higher privileges or interrupts the host through a system crash.
