Root code execution via writable startup script
Published Jun 11, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Improper privilege management in Pydio Cells Enterprise OVF 2.0.4 allows local users to execute arbitrary code as root after reboot. The pydio-owned /opt/pydio/bin/show-welcome-message script is executed as root by a systemd service that does not specify a User. Access as the low-privileged pydio account is required, and execution waits for an appliance reboot before granting complete host control.
