Local command execution via certificate-dialog desktop escape
Published May 15, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Improper privilege management in Cellebrite UFED 5.0 through 7.5.0.845 allows local users to execute commands through a Windows file dialog. The certificate-export wizard exposes a Browse dialog where navigating to System32 and dragging a DLL onto cmd.exe launches a command prompt despite desktop restrictions. Physical access to the appliance desktop and a crafted USB payload enable code execution as the Operator account; SYSTEM access requires a separate Windows exploit.
