Remote command execution via default credentials
Published Jun 8, 2020 · Updated Sep 17, 2024
Security misconfiguration in Realtek ADSL/PON Modem SoC firmware allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary commands via a built-in network monitoring tool. The SDK leaves a network-monitoring backdoor enabled with a default username and password, allowing supplied credentials to reach a terminal command interface. Access requires the default credentials and network reachability; successful execution can expose or alter device data and services, while no firmware version boundary is published.
