Authenticated code execution via unchecked template writes
Published May 29, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Improper access control in MapPress Maps for WordPress before 2.54.6 allows remote authenticated users to execute PHP code through AJAX. The mapp_tpl_save handler passes attacker-controlled name and content values to file_put_contents, creating an executable PHP template in the active theme. A low-privileged WordPress account can plant a webshell and run code with the web server account's access.
