CVE-2020-1259Network attack vector

Measured-boot log tampering via unparsed event types

Published Jun 9, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

Security feature bypass in Microsoft Windows Host Guardian Service allows remote authenticated users to tamper with measured-boot logs. The service accepts an event-log type its parsers do not interpret, allowing an attacker-controlled hash to be appended without an alert. Low privileges and network access to HGS are required; the consequence is undetected modification of the measured-boot log, not code execution.
