OAuth token exposure via protocol-relative redirect
Published Apr 30, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Open redirect in Sourcegraph before 3.15.1 allows remote attackers to redirect users to arbitrary sites through a crafted authentication URL. SafeRedirectURL in cmd/frontend/auth/redirect.go parses attacker-controlled input, checks only that the resulting path starts with '/', and therefore returns a protocol-relative //example.com path to the browser. Exploitation requires a user to follow the crafted link; in the OAuth flow, the off-site redirect exposes the partial OAuth token to the attacker-controlled destination.
