CVE-2020-12110Known exploitationPublic exploitNetwork attack vector

Sensitive data exposure via hardcoded backup key

Published May 4, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

Hardcoded cryptographic keys in TP-Link NC-series camera firmware allow remote attackers to decrypt or forge configuration backups. The swSystemBackup and swSystemRestoreFile methods apply a model-shared hardcoded key through modified DES-ECB when encrypting and decrypting backup files. Network access to the backup and restore functions exposes stored wireless and service credentials and permits attacker-controlled files to overwrite device files, enabling root code execution.
