Authenticated code execution via unchecked AJAX template save
Published Apr 23, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Improper access control in MapPress Maps Pro before 2.53.9 allows remote authenticated users to execute PHP code through AJAX. The ajax_save handler in mappress_template.php accepts attacker-chosen names and PHP content, then writes an executable file into the active theme directory without a nonce or capability check. A subscriber account is sufficient; the Pro-only template path permits site takeover, while the Free and Pro map handlers permit stored JavaScript in site content.
