Site takeover via unprotected AJAX actions
Published Apr 23, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Authorization bypass in Responsive Ready Sites Importer before 2.2.7 allows remote authenticated users to take over WordPress sites. Twenty-three AJAX handlers, mostly in class-responsive-ready-sites-importer.php, execute import, reset, deletion, and plugin-activation operations without capability or nonce checks. Subscriber-level access is sufficient to overwrite site data, add attacker-controlled pages or administrators, and activate plugins.
