CVE-2020-12046Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Malicious firmware installation via missing signature verification

Published May 14, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

Improper signature verification in Opto 22 SoftPAC 9.6 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to install malicious firmware. During an update, SoftPAC Agent extracts and installs a supplied firmware archive without validating a signature on the archive or embedded executable. Network access, low privileges, and user interaction are required; the installed executable can persist as controller code.
