CVE-2020-12042Public exploitNetwork attack vector

SYSTEM-level file writes via firmware ZIP traversal

Published May 14, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

Path traversal in Opto 22 SoftPAC 9.6 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to write arbitrary files with SYSTEM privileges. SoftPAC Agent extracts firmware ZIP entries without sanitizing embedded paths, so traversal sequences place attacker-controlled files outside the intended directory. User-level access to the firmware-update path is required; a successful write can overwrite files available to the SYSTEM service and support code execution when combined with a loading primitive.
