CVE-2020-12034

File write via unsanitized EDS SQL injection

Published May 20, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

SQL injection in Rockwell Automation EDS Subsystem 28.0.1 and earlier allows adjacent-network attackers to write files or interrupt service. The subsystem stores untrusted Electronic Data Sheet content without adequate sanitization, allowing crafted SQL to alter its database and direct the SQL engine to write or modify system files. An attacker must impersonate a new device on the local industrial network so discovery software retrieves and parses the malicious EDS file; a startup-path write can execute after restart.
