Authenticated code execution via retained archive contents
Published Jun 24, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Arbitrary file write in Xiaomi R3600 ROM before 1.0.50 allows remote authenticated users to place crafted files under /tmp. The c_upload backup handler extracts attacker-controlled archive members into /tmp, then removes only the archive after validation fails, retaining files in nested service configuration paths. Administrative access to the backup-restore interface is required; a retained dnsmasq configuration can invoke a supplied shell script as root after a service restart, and malformed content can interrupt the router.
