Authentication bypass via nginx alias path traversal
Published Jun 24, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Path traversal in Xiaomi router R3600 ROM before 1.0.50 allows remote attackers to read temporary files through an HTTP request. The nginx /backup/log alias omits a trailing slash, so a /backup/log../secretFile path resolves outside the alias directory and exposes files under /tmp. No authentication is required on the router network, and reading /tmp/messages discloses the stok token used to access the administrative interface.
