CVE-2020-11932

LUKS passphrase exposure via installer logs

Published May 13, 2020 · Updated Sep 16, 2024

Information disclosure in Canonical Subiquity before 20.05.2 allows local users to read a LUKS full-disk-encryption passphrase via installer logs. The installer writes the user-entered passphrase into its installation log, and the log is copied onto the installed system. Access requires high local privileges in the installer environment; the bounded impact is disclosure of the encryption credential, with no demonstrated integrity or availability effect.
