Authenticated PHP code execution via avatar upload
Published May 19, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Unrestricted file upload in Sourcefabric Newscoop 4.4.7 allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary PHP code via an avatar update. The avatar image handler stores attacker-supplied files under the web-accessible /images/ path without restricting dangerous PHP types, so requesting the uploaded avatar causes server-side execution and can enable terminal commands. An authenticated account is required, and successful exploitation can compromise confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the Newscoop server.
