CVE-2020-1178Network attack vector

Authenticated privilege escalation via unsanitized authentication request

Published Jun 9, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

Improper request sanitization in Microsoft SharePoint Server allows remote authenticated users to elevate privileges via an authentication request. Microsoft states only that SharePoint fails to sanitize a specially crafted authentication request and has not disclosed the affected handler, field, or exact unsafe operation. A low-privileged account and network access are required; successful exploitation grants elevated SharePoint privileges, but the resulting role and permitted actions are undisclosed.
