CVE-2020-11759

Application crash via deep-image integer overflows

Published Apr 14, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

Out-of-bounds write in OpenEXR before 2.4.1 allows attackers to crash an application by supplying a malformed deep EXR image. The handleDeepFrameBuffer and readSampleCountForLineBlock routines use overflow-prone integer arithmetic when deriving buffer sizes and offsets, leaving a pointer outside allocated storage for a later write. Exploitation requires an application to process an attacker-supplied deep image; the published assessment bounds the demonstrated consequence to application unavailability.
