Authenticated administrator escalation via unchecked role update
Published Jun 4, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Missing authorization in Castel NextGen DVR 1.0.0 allows remote authenticated users to grant their accounts Administrator roles. The /Administration/Users/Edit/:UserId handler accepts a crafted POST that adds role identifiers without confirming that the session belongs to an Administrator. A low-privileged Reviewer account and network access to the management interface are required; successful exploitation grants access to administrator-only functions.
