Privilege escalation via writable installation directory
Published Jun 11, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Local privilege escalation in Mids' Reborn Hero Designer 2.6.0.7 allows local users to execute code in another user's context. The installer grants Authenticated Users Modify access to the installation directory, and the application loads a missing VERSION.dll from that writable path. A low-privilege account must plant a binary or DLL and wait for a more privileged user to launch the application; installations under a personal directory are not exposed to other non-administrative users.
