Client message exposure via wildcard targetOrigin
Published Apr 7, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Information exposure in xdLocalStorage 2.0.5 and earlier allows remote attackers to receive client messages through a redirected iframe. The buildMessage() function in xdLocalStorage.js passes a wildcard targetOrigin to iframe.postMessage(), delivering data regardless of the document's origin. Exploitation requires user interaction and control of a redirect that replaces the intended iframe document; exposure is limited to messages sent by the client, while valid request IDs also permit replies that the client processes.
