Remote command execution via shell metacharacters
Published Apr 6, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
OS command injection in Pulse Secure Pulse Connect Secure through 2020-04-06 allows man-in-the-middle attackers to execute commands on clients via Host Checker. The tncc.jar applet passes attacker-controlled remediation-cookie text to doCustomRemediateInstructions, which invokes Runtime.getRuntime().exec() without neutralizing shell metacharacters. Exploitation requires Host Checker enforcement and a man-in-the-middle position; affected macOS, Linux, and Solaris clients can execute attacker-supplied operating-system commands.
