CVE-2020-11551Public exploit

Unauthenticated configuration overwrite via predictable SOAP credentials

Published May 18, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024

Improper authentication in NETGEAR Orbi firmware 2.5.2.104 and earlier allows remote attackers to overwrite Wi-Fi configuration data. The administrative SOAP service derives an MD5 credential from publicly observable peer MAC-address suffixes and accepts the resulting session for protected configuration methods. Access to a management-reachable wireless or wired network is required; successful requests can change administrator credentials, DNS, network settings, or device behavior.
