Memory disclosure via cumulative SGI-RLE run overflow
Published Jun 25, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Out-of-bounds reads in Pillow 7.0.0 and earlier allow attackers to expose process memory through a crafted SGI-RLE image. The expandrow and expandrow2 routines compare each RLE run with the full row width instead of tracking total decoded pixels, allowing cumulative runs to cross the row boundary. Reachability requires an application to decode attacker-controlled SGI images; malformed cumulative runs can read adjacent memory or terminate the decoder.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
