Client crash via bitmap cache off-by-one
Published May 15, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Out-of-bounds read in FreeRDP allows remote attackers controlling an RDP server to crash a connecting client via crafted bitmap-cache data. bitmap_cache_get rejects a cache-cell identifier only when it exceeds maxCells, so an identifier equal to maxCells indexes one element beyond the allocated cells array. Exploitation requires the client to connect to an attacker-controlled RDP server, and the resulting invalid memory access can terminate that client.
