Unauthenticated instructor-role escalation via unchecked role change
Published Jul 27, 2021 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Missing authorization in LearnPress before 3.2.6.9 allows remote attackers to grant any user the LP Instructor role. The learn_press_accept_become_a_teacher function processes action and user_id request parameters and calls WP_User::set_role without authenticating or authorizing the requester. Knowledge of a valid user ID is sufficient; the resulting role can create content, upload files, and publish unfiltered HTML.
