Root access via replaceable installer helper
Published Apr 1, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Local privilege escalation in Zoom Client for Meetings 4.6.8 and earlier allows local users to obtain root access during installation. The macOS installer copies runwithroot into a user-writable temporary directory and passes that unvalidated script to AuthorizationExecuteWithPrivileges for root execution. Exploitation requires an existing local foothold and an install or update event in which the script is replaced before privileged execution.
