Local privilege escalation via hard-link write redirection
Published Apr 29, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Privilege escalation in ESET Antivirus and Antispyware Module 1553 through 1560 allows local users to write protected files. The module follows attacker-created hard links in ESET directories during privileged writes, redirecting those writes into otherwise protected files. Exploitation requires limited local access, an affected ESET product, and Windows without the applicable March 2020 security updates.
