Kernel-mode code execution via mishandled memory objects
Published May 21, 2020 · Updated Aug 19, 2026
DirectX elevation of privilege in affected Windows 10 and Windows Server releases allows local users to execute code in kernel mode. Microsoft has not published the affected DirectX routine or the incorrect memory operation beyond stating that DirectX improperly handles objects in memory. Exploitation requires an authenticated local user to run a specially crafted application, after which kernel-mode access permits full control of the system.
