Code execution via malformed Media Foundation content
Published May 21, 2020 · Updated Aug 19, 2026
Memory corruption in Windows Media Foundation in affected Windows releases allows remote attackers to execute code via crafted content. Media Foundation improperly handles objects in memory while parsing that content; Microsoft has not disclosed the object type or exact bounds error. Exploitation requires a user to open a crafted document or visit a malicious webpage, after which code runs with that user's rights.
