Local privilege escalation via improper object handling
Published May 21, 2020 · Updated Aug 19, 2026
Memory corruption in the Windows Runtime in affected Microsoft Windows releases allows local users to execute code with elevated privileges. The runtime improperly handles objects in memory when a specially crafted application runs, but Microsoft has not disclosed the responsible function or object-lifetime error. A local user must run the application; successful exploitation grants elevated code execution on the same system.
