Local SYSTEM code execution via crafted Clipboard calls
Published May 21, 2020 · Updated Aug 19, 2026
Elevation of privilege in Microsoft Windows Clipboard Service allows local users to execute arbitrary code as Local System. The service improperly handles calls from a specially crafted local application, but Microsoft has not published the faulty operation or code locus. Exploitation requires an existing logon and can grant full control of the affected host, including reading, changing, or deleting data and creating privileged accounts.
