Authenticated code execution via unquoted curl options
Published May 11, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Unrestricted file upload in Pi-hole through 4.4 allows remote authenticated users to execute PHP code through the web interface. gravity_DownloadBlocklistFromUrl passes blocklist-derived text through unquoted curl-option variables, allowing an injected -o option to write PHP into the web directory. Web-administration access is sufficient on a default installation; code initially runs as www-data, while overwriting teleporter.php and invoking the permitted sudo pihole command grants root access.
