Administrator code execution via shared command configuration
Published Apr 2, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Privilege escalation in XAMPP before 7.2.29, 7.3.x before 7.3.16, and 7.4.x before 7.4.4 on Windows allows local users to run code as admins. The Control Panel lets an unprivileged user replace the shared editor or browser command in xampp-control.ini with a malicious executable or batch file. Execution requires a higher-privileged user to open a log through the Control Panel, which launches the attacker-selected file in that user's context.
