File disclosure via enabled external entity resolution
Published Mar 26, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
XML external entity injection in Accenture Mercury before 1.12.28 allows remote attackers to read files through crafted XML input. SimpleXmlParser creates a DocumentBuilderFactory with entity and external DTD processing enabled, then parses untrusted XML without restricting those features. Exploitation requires a consuming service to pass remote XML to the parser; resolved entities expose files readable by the service account or initiate server-side requests.
