Account takeover via poisoned password reset link
Published Mar 25, 2020 · Updated Aug 4, 2024
Host header injection in VESTA Control Panel through 0.9.8-25 and Hestia Control Panel before 1.1.1 allows remote attackers to take over accounts. web/reset/index.php inserts the unvalidated HTTP Host header into the emailed password-reset URL instead of using the configured hostname. The victim must request a reset and follow the poisoned link, which sends the reset key to the attacker-controlled host and enables the account password to be changed.
